We have a challenge pack for download and a matching badge to fundraise especially for this event. Please use the order form in the challenge pack for your badges.

Brownie Holiday and Camp - June 2011

It may have rained an awful lot, and no-one wore anything much other than waterproofs and wellies, but we more-or less stayed dry and took 40 Brownies on a Harry Potter themed camp and holiday.

August 2010 - County Camp at Foxlease

Most of us spent an amazing 5 days at Foxlease, taking part in swimming, crate stacking, high and low ropes, climbing, abseiling, archery, horse riding, hiking and a HUGE campfire, as well as winning the camp volleyball challenge, heading over to Brownsea Island to see where it all began and having a rather Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

July 2010 - Division Camp at Sarratt

Our Division Party, Camp and Sleepover took place up at Sarratt, with a centenary themed wide game, a brilliant barbecue cooked in the pouring rain, a rather fabulous cake and lots of activities to choose from.

July 2009 - Division Camp and Holiday

Once again we had fantastic weather for the Division Camp and Holiday at Chigwell Row. Congratulations to Kate F who achieved her Brownie Holiday Licence at this event, and thanks to Katie J who organised the Guide Camp. The girls had a great time, trying grass sledging, crate stacking and wide games, as well as going blackberrying and taking part in a great campfire with loads of other Guides and Scouts.

December 2008 - Division Guide Sleepover

An awful lot of Guides took part in a Christmassy Sleepover in Holloway, playing games, watching a film (with LOTS of popcorn) and making Christmas decorations.

November 2008 - Tree Planting at Sarratt

It was very wet and muddy, but we had a great time helping to plant over 500 trees at Hampstead and Westminster Division's campsite up at Sarratt. This was part of the Girlguiding UK Changing the World initiative.

June 2008 - Division Campfire

We had great weather for the Division Campfire at the Scout Park in Bounds Green. Thanks very much to Scout Leaders Nick and Stephen for sorting out the BBQ - delicious.

The campfire was great and we sang loads of songs including 'You'll never get to heaven', 'Boom chica boom', 'A little ant', and 'Fee Fi Fo'

May 2008 - Peak Adventure Camp

This was a great 5 days in Derbyshire at the Guide Activity Centre in Glenbrook. There were loads of activities including a wide game, a body beautiful session, treasure hunts, walks, bicyling, wealselling, caving, cooking on trangias, an indoor campfire and a visit to a theme park on the way home. Some comments from people who went:

"The best bits were: Meeting other people, and making our own meals. Doing caving because it was dark and we got dirty and had to fit through the little holes. It was so much fun because it was really dark and we had to turn off our torches. You couldn’t see nothin’ it was pitch black. It was damp and there was water dripping from the ceiling. There was loads of icicle things. I think they were made of some special stone, limestone. Stalagmites and stalactites."

"I liked when we went caving. I liked it also when we’ve done archery. The bad thing was when I had an asthma attack. I liked Peak Adventure a little bit. Caving involves water. You had to walk down the steps. They make you walk through these locks. Archery you had to fire bow and arrows to a board. White is 1 point, reds is 5, blue is 7 and yellow is 9. I got a yellow. I wasn’t that really pleased but I liked it a little bit. "

Winter 2007 / Spring 2008 Reports from Units

1st Covent Garden Brownies had its first meeting on Feb 27th 2008. There is a core of 9 girls attending each week, with 14 on the register, plus a waiting list of 6-year-olds who are joining as soon as they turn 7. The fourteen girls range in age from 7 to 10 years. We have spent time introducing the girls and potential leaders to Guiding and its values. Each week, we start with some sort of ice-breaker e.g. parachute games, then think about the Promise, motto and law, which all of the Brownies are learning. We have made fairy cakes, tried origami and team ball games etc.

3rd Holborn BrowniesWe did our Agility badge and Artist badge in the autumn term, had a Halloween party, made and cracked some codes, learned to fingerspell our names, tried out some exotic fruit and made smoothies. We said hello to our two newest Brownies as they made their promise and said goodbye to the two oldest as they started Guides. In the spring term we celebrated Chinese New Year, made mosaic photo frames for our Mums, had a drama evening, baked Easter biscuits, and on the last day of term it was sunny enough to play parachute games out in the park!

3rd Holborn Guides We have four girls, 3 newly enrolled at the end of last term and one who will make her promise at camp. All are really enthusiastic about Guiding and badges and Go-for-its in particular. We did our chocolate go-for-it and are just finishing our film badge. We’ve also baked cakes and wrote letters to raise camp money and did the Thinking Day postcard exchange. They are counting down the days until camp. We are trying to do lots of outdoors stuff this term to broaden their experiences with Guides, having come from Brownies.

17th Holborn Brownies & Guides Halloween and bonfire night were celebrated by the children dressing up as skeletons and having sparklers in the play area. Christmas provided the yearly opportunity for the children to have an evening out of the hospital with a trip to Santa's grotto in the group mini-bus. Easter was celebrated with an active Easter egg hunt around the hospital. We had visits from 3 Leaders from Ireland looking to set up a hospital group there, and they seemed to enjoy seeing our very different and adaptive meeting style.

7th St Pancras Guides Following the Bangladesh disaster in November, 7th St Pancras Guides decided to raise money by making and selling Christmas cards. This was a fantastic success as we raised over £120 of which we kept some for unit funds and gave the rest to the Bangladesh Disaster Emergency Fund. In the spring, we went to Thinking Day activities at Pax Lodge and enjoyed a team photo challenge around Belsize Park. We've had 5 new Guides make their promise and have been sewing camp blankets, making piñatas and trying to cook on tin cans. Since October as a unit we've gained the Active Response badge and the Right to Teamwork badge, plus Go For It Chocolate and Go For It Gourmet Food (which we made up).

8th St Pancras Brownies We have spent the spring term working towards our Toymaker's Badge, and have had great fun with a 'trip' to India for Thinking Day and a trip to the Roald Dahl Museum: it was cold and wet, but we were excited not only to visit the museum, but also to see "Sophie's Norphanage" and "Matilda's Library". We have tried fabric painting, had an Easter egg hunt, a Teddy Bear's Picnic, and are looking forward to Pack Holiday next term.

8th St Pancras Guides The Guides have been working hard towards their cook's badge this term. Rosie has completed her BP Challenge with Olivia and Sam close to completing, needing an Adventure to be fully complete. We have made lots of smoothies, learnt that it's a bad idea to grate our fingers, painted t-shirts and printed pillow-cases, and several girls are looking forward to going on Peak 2008. We also had a visit from a photographer, who took pictures of the girls as part of a Go For It, and also took some 'reportage' style photographs of the meeting.

St Pancras Rangers Food has been a theme of St Pancras Rangers’ recent meetings - we've had Christmas cake decorating for Christmas, Chinese cooking for Chinese New Year, we learnt to make pasta (green pasta as it was St Patrick’s Day!) and tried Tunisian food following Claire's expedition there. Fortunately we also did some exercise with an ice-skating session. In addition, three members of the unit attended Innovate, one has organised a weekend camp at Bounds Green and another spent 12 days on tall ship sailing round the Caribbean for her QG/Gold DofE residential. Two of our Rangers attended the Thinking Day service at Westminster Abbey to be part of the LaSER colour party. We planned and led a Pirate themed activity for the Brownies to raise money for the JST.
